PROFILED BY DEGROOTS MEDIALocated in the heart of groovy Leederville, Latasha’s Kitchen may only seat a handful of people but that handful certainly count themselves lucky. This venue is a place well known to locals and lovers of Asian food, many of whom are on first name basis with owner Latasha Menon. Pulling on her vast experience and passion for cooking fresh and zesty dishes, Latasha offers a menu of over 50 dishes hailing from Asia, India, Africa and the Middle East; all of which are also available for takeaway. Proving she’s not afraid of sharing her culinary secrets, Latasha also holds cooking classes from her Leederville kitchen. The demonstration and hands-on classes teach attendees a range of skills and methods to create your very own dishes like butter chicken, rogan josh, Malaysian prawn sambal or spicy Kashmiri potatoes.
If the thought of spending an evening in the kitchen (be it Latasha’s or your own) makes you wince, then perhaps you’d prefer the challenge of selecting a few dishes from the monster-sized menu. Locals and lovers of Latasha’s cooking have touted her signature dish of red pork belly fry as a hands-down favourite, as is the Chettinad lamb chops and the Indonesian beef and potato curry. All dishes are graded mild, medium or hot when it comes to chilli rating and any dishes sans animal products are marked vegan. If you fall in love with a particular flavour or spice, there’s a good chance you’ll find it in the pantry section of Latasha’s Kitchen. Whole and powdered spices, fresh herbs, cookware, ceramic ware, kitchen utensils, handcrafted timber ware, cookbooks, chutneys, pickles, oils and vinegar are all available for purchase and make ideal gifts for the gourmet chef at home.
