LOCATION
East Perth, five minutes from the CBD.

PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIA
Any Perth local who considers themself to be a ‘foodie’ would be familiar with the work and success of the Lamont family. Beginning with a humble winery in Perth’s Swan Valley in the seventies, Corin and Neil Lamont set the standard for producing full flavoured wines to accompany delectable food. More than 30 years on, sisters Kate and Fiona Lamont now oversee the running of a 10,000 case winery, two cellar doors and three very successful restaurants located in Yallingup, Swan Valley and East Perth. The latter overlooks the tranquil yet cosmopolitan scenery of Claisebrook Inlet and the menu is just as you’d expect from an operator of this calibre. It features carefully selected, uncomplicated fare and only utilising the freshest of produce.

Of course the menu is changed seasonally, giving regular Lamont’s fans good reason to visit at least four times a year. The menu is nothing short of mouth watering with dishes like grilled quail and crisp eggplant with pine nut and currant dressing and the roast field mushroom, confit beetroot and Italian prosciutto all displaying Kate’s commitment to fresh produce. Being a sucker for good home-made pasta with a rich, hearty sauce my knees went weak when I saw the confit duck pappardelle with smoked duck breast. Desserts are also a great specialty of Kate’s, as is her flair for wine matching. The Turkish delight meringue with mascarpone cream and the profiteroles with vanilla bean ice-cream both come highly recommended by me and my insatiable tastebuds. Make sure you go to Lamont’s with a big appetite and plenty of time to enjoy a truly memorable meal.

First impressions of Lamonts: friendly, fast and efficient service.
The surrounding panoramic view of the outdoor area is just stunning. The East Perth Re-development has left a beautiful mark on the Claisebrook inlet, Leaving you with a confusing feeling - like you could be anywhere in the world!

Entree - Wagyu beef Carpaccio with toasted hazelnuts, cucumber salad and cauliflower cream ($19.50)
In comparison to other Carpaccio's I have eaten, this rated very highly. Fantastic quality ingredients, the Wagyu was incredible! The robust flavour of the beef, against the delicate flavour and texture of the nuts was a real winner for me. 8/10.

Main - Confit duck leg with smoked breast, orange and walnut salad ($39)
One of the best combinations of flavours I have experienced in a long time. Presentation was immaculate and the duck was cooked perfectly, and the salad was very well constructed. The sweetness of the orange, against the bitterness of the roquette, and the smokiness of the duck breast was truely incredible. A light dressing gave it another dimension.

Desert - Chocolate tart with a truffle and spicy orange ice cream.
Winner of the night. I would go far as saying that was the best desert I have eaten. Matched perfectly with the 2007 De Bortoli Nobel One Semillion Wine, it was doing all the right things. For those who are a chocolate fan, the tart was perfection. Firm, thick layer of chocolate on top, with a gooey soft centre. Chocolate pastry was exactly how it should be- sweet, crumbly and melt in your mouth.
Ice Cream had a beautiful richness to it, with the spicy orange flavours complimenting the depth of the ice cream .

Overall I really enjoyed my experience at lamonts. Wine list is fantastic, and i would highly reccoment the Lamonts SSB - a beautiful drop for the price!!! 9.5/10!

Food
Entrée
Bread and olive oil ($3.30/person)
Nice taste. Dip could have had a bit more oomph to it (I felt it needed more ‘taste’.
(7/10)

Main
200g Beef Fillet with potato ($39)
The dish was presented in a way that a potato wall protected a meaty treasure. Beef was luxuriously soft so very tender and I openly coveted the potato. I never knew people could make a potato that way.
9/10

Fish Fillet with risotto ($36)
Fish was great even for someone who doesn’t prefer to eat fish in general (ie no fishy taste). Was nice and soft on most of it but a little dry in the centre on the thicker bit. Sauce was interesting taste, quite nice, very strong lemony flavor. Risotto was quite nice I liked how it wasn’t overbearingly creamy. Presentation was very nice. Portion size looked small but was actually very filling.
8/10

Desert
Panna cotta with mango and granita ($16.50)
Lovely combination of different tastes and textures, creamy panna cotta at the base, perfectly sweet mango pieces in the centre and tangy granite on the top. Gently sweet, light, fresh dessert perfect for a summer evening. Ratio of panna cotta to mango to granita was perfect. It is worth tasting.
9.5/10

Service
Timing
This was probably the worst part of dining at Lamont’s. We satnfor about 10 minutes before being offered water and entrée’s, 20 minutes before being served and 40 before starting dinner. The experience was in no way rushed.
(7/10)

Friendliness
Service was reasonable, staff were friendly but not overly so.
8/10

Ambiance
Love the wall colours (red/blue), good comfortable chairs with a modern look. Views were great at 8pm not too hot outdoors and looking out to the water was nice. Beware of dining outdoors without mosquito spray if you commonly get bitten though.
9/10

Overall
A good experience. Excellent food, alright service and nice to hang around for a romantic evening.
