PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAEuropean-style mansions and apartments frame the tranquil lake, manicured gardens and glorious cove of East Perth’s Claisebrook Cove where diners come to leisurely while away time. Only minutes from the CBD, a stroll around the lake will take you past Havana Restaurant where the individuality of the area seems to have rubbed off on this restaurant’s mantra. After extensive global travels seeking gastronomic inspiration, owners Nicole and Michael Gascoigne returned home to pour their heart and soul into the fit-out of the elegant restaurant. Boasting a decadent interior of chocolate and cream hues with high-backed leather chairs, dark wooden floors and beautiful artwork adorning the walls, Nicole and Michael spared no expense on finishes and fittings. A 300 year old door rescued from a Cuban monastery, stands triumphantly as the magnificent centrepiece of the restaurant.
The Cuban theme shines through dishes like the Havana tasting plate and Havana garlic prawns, while the rest of the menu offers a range of delectable international dishes. Thinly-crusted pizzas, robust pasta and succulent meats entice all tastebuds. The pan-fried veal porterhouse served in a cream masala sauce and topped with plump local prawns is a local favourite while the seafood deluxe is a crustacean lovers delight. The rich meat of the slow-roasted duck is glazed with orange and balsamic sauce and served on a bed of parmesan risotto. The banana and chocolate crepe is topped in caramelised banana and mops up thick chocolate sauce and ice cream, ending the night with sweet nothings.
