Located on the corner of Plain and Royal Streets in the heart of freshly developed East Perth, Antico Caffe is one of those spots the whole family will love. Good Italian values and fabulous food are major drawcards for the owners and staff of Antico who treat their customers as if they were part of their own family. After greeting you with a warm smile, the staff are quick to show you to a table and attend to your requests without ignoring the little ones. A massive menu of traditional Italian family recipes has been handed down through the generations with very little change and an emphasis placed on consistency.

So when your huge serving of saltimbocca di pollo (chicken breast with parma ham) or cotoletta alla Siciliana (crumbed baby beef steak with eggplant, onion and napolitana sauce) arrives at your table, you can be sure you're in for a fine feed. The chefs here put a little something extra in their cuisine to give it that special uniqueness. It may be something as simple as love and passion, who knows? With such a large menu on offer, there is sure to be something to tempt even the fussiest diner - seafood in a myriad of styles and flavours, wood-fired pizzas, homemade pastas with a range of sauces, tender steaks grilled to your liking and a plethora of chicken dishes. Stand out favourites include the entrees of crostini saporiti (garlic bread with spicy Italian sausage, black olives and melted mozzarella cheese) and the antipasto platter. If you still have room for a main course, the scallopini profumo di bosco is more than just a mouthful, needless to say its delicious

Antico Caffe has changed hands recently, and seems to be suffering as a result. There is nothing wrong with the restaurant, and some of the food is terrific. My timbale was a treat. They do good lunch time specials, and deserve to be a lot more popular day and night. My biggest beef, and I don't know how to tell anyone, is that the delightful Bengali waiter needs to use deodorant and wear a clean shirt every day. You should have seen it the Friday night when the cricket was on at the WACA! Even Ricky Ponting was there. But the Friday after it was quiet again. I hope more people start going as it deserves to do well. I must say, though, that it bears no resemble to the Antico Caffe in Genoa, Italy. Oh for an Italian bistro that does!review 25/01/2012
