Although there are many eateries along West Coast Drive of Perth’s northern coastline, none can boast an absolute beachfront location like Trigg Island Cafe. It’s the only venue on the west side of the road, meaning views to popular Trigg Point surf break and the sparkling Indian Ocean are unsurpassed. Trigg Island Cafe prides itself on being family friendly and draws a strong clientele as a result. The menu is as extensive as the views and even includes a kid’s selection for the littlies. If you’re a fan of big servings with all the trimmings, you’ll love this place. Plates are of more than generous proportions and always seem to bring a smile to the men at the table. As well as your standard cafe menu items such as soup, salads and pastas, there’s a large range of dishes that show the chefs here are capable of just about anything.

All seafood meals are served with salad and fries or baked potato, all of which barely fit on the plate. The fish of the day grilled in lemon butter sauce is a sure choice and the blackened fish with Cajun spices is a good one if you like a little kick to your dinner. The grill menu features quality MSA-grade (Meat Standards Australia) cuts cooked rare to medium. I especially like the disclaimer stating that the chefs take no responsibility for well-done steaks. My recommendation is the steak and calamari combo; a unique twist on the always popular surf and turf classic. Picture a big juicy steak piled so high with tender calamari they are fighting to actually stay on the plate! Just make sure you leave enough room for the cherries jubilee dessert – hot black cherries with ice cream, kirsch and flaked almonds. Yes please.
