Only 20 minutes north of the city via the Mitchell Freeway, The Greenwood Hotel is famous for its steaks, seafood and good old fashioned service. This massive venue boasts a range of areas including a sports bar, a new courtyard and a brasserie area able to cater for very large groups. A favourite with families, locals and those who have left their comfort zone for one of their famous steaks, it’s easy to see why some of the regulars have been visiting The Greenwood for decades. Modestly decorated, the emphasis is on no frills comfort. But that’s not to say you can’t enjoy an intimate evening with that special someone. The service is warm and friendly; much like you’d expect at your favourite aunt’s house only I’m guessing the average aunt can’t cook a steak like the chefs at The Greenwood can. If you’re like me and crave a perfectly cooked steak from time to time, look no further. The chefs that work the grill here prize themselves on getting it right every time and, to date, I’ve never been disappointed with my rare sirloin.

When I’m in the mood for a man-size meal, my biggest struggle is deciding whether to have seafood or steak. That’s where the Greenwood “Grill and Thrill” saves the day. And when that perfectly cooked sirloin topped with a generous amount of creamy garlic prawns is placed in front of me, I exhale with satisfaction – even before I’ve judged the first mouthful. Other favourites on the mains menu are the Greek lamb cutlets and the dukkha-encrusted salmon with steamed rice, cherry tomatoes and asparagus. So the next time you’re craving a big juicy steak, do your bit for the local beef farmers and hit The Greenwood. Just don’t expect leftovers for Fido.
