LOCATIONLocated in Mount Lawley.
PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIALeaving the bright lights and hub-bub of Beaufort Street in Mount Lawley is often harder said than done, yet once you’ve discovered Coode Street Cafe you’ll gladly make the detour. Known for its gay-friendly service, toe-tapping atmosphere and superb breakfast, this place is a stellar find. The interior is bright, clean and airy yet the place to be is definitely alfresco. This area holds an atmosphere of its own on weekends as groups of friends clad in designer sunglasses swap gossip over award-winning breakfast creations like eggs benedict and the Coode Street hotcakes complete with mixed berries and premium yoghurt. Other crowd-pleasers include the grilled peaches with fresh ricotta, the “All Time Favourite” (porridge with stewed fruit and cinnamon sugar) and the “Who Needs Lunch” dish containing everything you would and could eat for an entire weekend of breakfasts.
Coode Street Cafe is also open for lunch and although the food is still very good, it doesn’t seem to hold the same buzzy atmosphere. Lunch-goers are treated to a range of light meals and salads such as Caesar, nicoise and a warm chicken version as well as plenty of hearty options for those with larger appetites. Being such a classic lunch dish, the club sandwich is one of my all time favourites. I’m told the lentil burger is equally tasty and very popular with vegetarians. If you’ve missed breakfast but can’t seem to kick the craving for bacon and eggs, fear not – “Who Needs Lunch” also makes an appearance on the lunch menu. Despite the irony, it’s a welcome addition for anyone trying to make an all-day hangover do a disappearing act.
