PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIALocated on Scarborough’s popular seaside Esplanade, Cafe Del Pescatore is well known for its top notch seafood, and for good reason. Using the freshest local seafood available, the menu offers everything you could ever want from a seafood restaurant. Even the decor carries a distinct nautical theme with fishing nets, buoys and other ocean paraphernalia hanging from the walls and ceiling. But don’t waste too much time trying to decide if the interior needs an upgrade – there’s food to be selected! The gamberi sfrigolari (garlic prawns in lemon and garlic oil) are an obvious choice for entree as are the fresh oysters with a range of dressings. Try the oysters with mango for a refreshing blend of sweetness with the natural salt of the sea. If you’re after something that’s more land-based, the deep fried camembert cheese is fantastic. Don’t be tempted to order a second serving of it though – it may be delicious but the main menu has plenty more to offer.
If you have difficulties making decisions, you may find yourself asking for help very soon. West Australian chilli mussels with a choice of bases (try the lemongrass), fish of the day, whole grilled snapper, crayfish (when in season), poached scallops, pastas, risottos, salads… what more could a seafood lover ask for? No matter what you order, you can rest assured you’ll soon be dining on the freshest seafood while enjoying beautiful views of the Indian Ocean. Of course, if you’re like me and want the best of both worlds, you’ll probably go with Pescatore’s surf and turf. And when that charred rib eye steak topped with massive grilled tiger prawns arrives at your table, you’ll be glad you did.
