Located just one hour south of Perth via car or train, the coastal town of Mandurah has seen enormous growth over the past decade. It has long been a popular holiday spot for families and those with a penchant for fishing and blue manna crabs. Unfortunately when it came time to dine, past options were limited to fish and chips or greasy burgers. Thankfully Mandurah’s recent expansion has included a few modern dining venues with one such restaurant being this year’s talk of the town. M on The Point, located within the new multi-million dollar development where the old Peninsula Hotel once stood, is just what Mandurah needed. Owned and operated by the Monaghan family of Subiaco Hotel fame, M combines an interior of sublime sophistication with a superb menu that creates a breathtaking wining and dining destination.

Head chef Ivan Mather has just returned from a five-year working trip through Europe, picking up plenty of new culinary skills and ideas along the way. Lucky for diners at M, Ivan makes good use of his new skills on the menu with dishes like Moroccan vegetable harira with miniature lamb kofta and the kataiffi-wrapped scallops with chorizo sausage and sauce vierge. Innovation is at the forefront, particularly when you consider a dish like the flaky pastry sandwich of corned beef rillettes and pickled cucumber. Mains comprise a range of tasty gourmet pizzas and other delicious inventions like the crisp twice-cooked ham hock, the lamb confit and the Wagyu beef burger. M on The Point has a fine as well as a casual dining area, both of which incorporate two bars and an alfresco setting with impressive marina views.
