Perched on the banks of the Swan River in East Fremantle, The Left Bank is undoubtedly one of Perth’s most iconic and original hotels. The old heritage building is steeped in history and towers over the street. Constructed in the late 1800s, the building was originally home to a family of boat builders and although it has since undergone a few subtle renovations, the structure still features original fireplaces, staircases and doorways. It is fondly known for its Sunday Sessions of chilled, afternoon drinks and its award-winning restaurant that sits on the top level. Downstairs is where the masses congregate to enjoy a drink or two but it’s the upper level of The Left Bank that holds the real magic of this place. Although it’s only steps away from the beer garden, the restaurant is a world away from the bustling pub. Its cosy interior features a homely, intimate setting while the veranda area bestows diners with spectacular views of the river and beyond to Fremantle Harbour.

Feeling almost as though the walls are instilled with wisdom from the stories that have passed through over the last Century, the restaurant caries the welcoming atmosphere through the menu and embraces traditional dishes from around the world. Chef Graham Woodcock has been running the kitchen for over a decade, cherished by the Left Bank for his skill and ability to carry off such an extensive menu. With over twenty mains to choose from, along with starters, sides, oysters and breads, perusing The Left Bank menu is like going on an international culinary safari. Roman-style fresh gnocchi, Moroccan spiced lamb rump, mee goreng, Thai caramelised king salmon and tabouleh are just some of the globally influenced dishes on offer. There’s also old-English pub classics like the beer battered fish with local silver whiting as well as prime-cut Angus steaks and an extravagant seafood platter. The Left Bank restaurant is a historic institution that boasts world-class international fare.
