Bought by current owner Gary Gosatti in 1989, the Norfolk has operated as a public house since 1887, making it a genuine Fremantle landmark. The old girl received a major facelift in 1986 for the America’s Cup and has hosted Freo’s sailing community ever since. Its spacious courtyard provides sunny, outdoor eating all year round and is well-heated in winter. It’s a beautiful spot to enjoy chef Nick Birrell’s extensive a la carte menu, with their famous pizza on offer every day till late. Breakfast is available on Sunday mornings.

This is an institution in Fremantle, popular with younger folk, tourists and locals wanting consistent, contemporary Australian food, and a pint. There’s an international selection of wines, including wines from WA. Choose from an eclectic menu of pasta, salads and grills as well as daily specials. The Asian influence is evident but burgers and quality fish and chips are popular too. Try their “create your own seafood platter” – with choices like Thai coral prawn cakes and salt and pepper cuttlefish, perfect for fussy eaters. Chef Nick gets the chance to extend himself at the end of every month with a week of themed food. June will feature crayfish. Be there.
