Boasting what has to be one of the finest aspects over Fishing Boat Harbour, The View is one of the latest additions to Fremantle’s abundant dining scene. Formerly known as Lyrebird, new owners have taken the reigns of this superb location and given it an almighty shot in the arm with a new team of staff, an overhauled interior and a mouth-watering new menu. The alfresco area of The View is one of the most breathtaking south of the river, with sultry lighting, grassed planter boxes and – of course – a spectacular harbour view. The interior is spacious yet cosy, which is a good thing considering it has a 500-seat capacity. The new owners are extremely proud of the transformation and, judging by the number of people talking about this place, diners agree.

Predominantly modern Australian in style, there’s a wide range of dishes to choose from on the new menu, with local seafood, lamb and beef being well represented. I loved the “design your own” tasting plate (which could also be referred to as tapas), where you select the likes of smoked salmon, marinated olives, chorizo, marinated artichoke and fresh natural oysters. Order all five options or just a couple; the choice is yours. Other popular entrees include the salmon sashimi plate and the Stella beer-battered fish and chips. Being a sucker for seafood when dining by the ocean (must be the salty air), The View’s seafood platter for two is delicious. Laden with half a steamed crayfish, poached tiger prawns, natural oysters, grilled calamari and scallops, battered fish, chips, salad and dipping sauces, you’d be mad not to try it. If you’re hankering for great scenery, delicious food and attentive service, The View is just what you need.

This place was very disappointing. They ruined my 30th birthday party. It started when they stuffed up my table number and only had a table set for 20 when I specifically asked for 29 and have the emails to prove it. Then after we got there, not one person came to ask if we wanted drinks or if there was anything they can do. We had to go up to the bar to get served for drinks, then they would tell us to go sit down and they would bring the drinks to us. 50 mins later we were still waiting to get drinks. When we complained no one cared or could be bothered listening to us. After an hour and a half of sitting there and not one staff member asking us if we want to order food, we complained again and tried numerous times to get menus. Finally they said they had run out of menus and had to copy some more. So then we finally ordered our food. 2 hours later the food still hadn’t come out. By this time my friends were starving and getting very angry and were even starting to leave. So we complained again, only to be told to sit down by the Manager . 2 1/2 hours later we all decided to leave because we were hungry and had had enough of the rudeness. So then the Manager said our meals were getting plated now and if they aren’t on the table in 10 mins we will get everything half price. Half an hour later, we still had no food! So we complained yet again and they said we can have everything for free. Finally 4 hours later, the meals came out and they were all wrong and we had to send them all back!!!! Don’t ever go here...they are rude and DO NOT care about you at all. They completely ruined my 30th birthday, which was supposed to be a special night...instead all my friends left hungry and angry!!! review 14/11/2011
