PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAA visit to Fremantle’s Fishing Boat Harbour would not be complete without a visit to Cicerello’s. Established over one hundred years ago, the family-friendly venue continues to serve up fresh seafood to thousands of hungry mouths every week. Moving with the times, the venue is now situated on the boardwalk with a boatshed theme complete with high pitched A-frame roof, a massive aquarium and the hum of commercial fishing boats just metres away. The mood at Cicerello’s is always casual and relaxed as young and old tuck into their catch of the day on the boardwalk, in the restaurant, or on the grass under the shady Norfolk pine tree. For something very different, visit Cicerello’s between noon and 5pm from Friday to Sunday and enjoy a select menu on the original Cicerello’s fishing boat, now docked at the boardwalk. Known as Miss Cicerello, the boat has been transformed to seat a handful of diners privy to a short and sweet menu including freshly shucked oysters, Exmouth tiger prawns and Shark Bay blue manna crab.
Back in the main restaurant, it’s business as usual with a no-frills range of seafood served grilled or deep fried. Those partial to the former will adore the char-grilled Fremantle sardines and Cicerello’s delight – a selection of grilled and deep fried seafood for one that can easily be shared between two. If you prefer the more traditional style of deep fried seafood, you won’t be disappointed with the selection. Everything from Chiko rolls to dim sims and crumbed sardines are on the menu, all of which are best enjoyed with Cicerello’s perfectly cooked chips. Although it may not be the ideal venue for a wedding proposal, it certainly wins hands down when it comes to fish and chips on a sunny Sunday arvo.
