Situated on Richmond’s funky Swan Street, Wild Oscar’s is the kind of corner bar and restaurant that could easily be your local. The staff is friendly and accommodating and the mood is relaxed yet fun, making it the perfect place for meeting up with friends or for unwinding at the end of a busy week. Large market umbrellas shade wooden tables that make their way around the corner, the ideal spot for a balmy summer’s eve. The front bar can get a little wild at times, especially on Friday and Saturday nights, but if it’s the food that takes your interest then the dining room to the rear is an almost tranquil escape.
Breakfast is served daily until 1pm with tempting options like a toasted baguette with mushrooms, spinach leaves, sun-dried tomatoes, goat’s cheese and a Greek salad, or the Oscar’s breakfast special where for $10 you get free range eggs cooked to your liking, toasted sourdough, and grilled bacon and tomatoes, with a cup of coffee. Nibble throughout the afternoon on a selection of tapas offerings or choose from the $12 lunch specials. Alternatively, start with an entree of freshly shucked oysters followed by Malaysian red curried chicken served on steamed rice with cucumber and roti bread. Oscar’s offers an Australian-friendly wine list with many by the glass.
