Melbourne is known for the races, excellent wine, fresh, seasonal produce and it’s ability to cram four seasons into one day. What it isn’t especially known for is Russian cuisine, which makes this Carnegie-based eatery well worth checking out. The food is good, the ambience calm and the accents quite unique.

Lunch on one of many daily lunch specials, available from 11am to 5pm, including a sandwich and coffee for $5, or chicken soup and cabbage rolls for $10. Alternatively, go a la carte with a Russian omelette of sausage, vegetables and cheese. At dinner time the low-priced specials continue with a dinner-for-two deal from the barbecue grill of two chicken kebabs, two beef sausages, two lamb cutlets and two chicken wings served with salad and chips. From the a la carte menu start with an entree of Russian dumplings, either the pelemeni (pastry with chicken or beef), or the vareniki (pastry with either cheese and spinach or potatoes and onion). Follow with the V & V special chicken which is stuffed with camembert cheese and avocado and served with potatoes, mushroom, onion and salad. Finish with prunes, nuts and thickened cream. V & V is fully licensed with many wines offered by the glass.
