Awarded 3 Chef's Hats - The Age Good Food Guide 2010-2012
It has taken Shannon Bennett two years to complete his masterplan but all have mutually agreed that it is well worth the wait. A gleaming black lobby welcomes guests and sets the scene for this dark, moody restaurant. The tables are set in a minimalist style using recycled cutlery and there are various other “green touches” throughout the restaurant. Recycled energy is used to heat the restaurant's water and the cleaning is done using “e-water” (which reduces the need to use any cleaning products). But while the venue may have changed, Vue de Monde is a classy, modern eatery offering classically-inspired French cuisine and impeccable service.

When Shannon Bennett closed the doors on his famed Carlton eatery Vue de Monde in 2005, only to reopen in a new CBD location a short time later, the response was over whelming resulting in award-winning success for this classy, modern restaurant which offers the same classically-inspired French cuisine Bennett has become renowned for.

Available lunchtime only Tuesday to Friday, the excellent value fixed price lunch menu, the Menu Du Jour, offers two and three courses with a selection of five signature dishes to choose from. Start with the foie gras grille a la poire et au Gewyrztramer: grilled Strasbourg foie gras served with caramelised pear, walnuts, grapes, eight spice and Gewurztraminer reduction. Follow with the canard a la pêche: confit duck leg and roast breast with roast peach, pistachios and thyme topped with pomme soufflé. Room permitting finish with the assiete de crème brûlée. Alternatively choose the gourmand menu, a degustation or tasting style menu of 5 courses tailored to each table’s specific likes and inspired by the day’s produce and available at both lunch and dinner. The impressive wine list with an expansive French and Australian selection has countless possibilities.

Yes, the service was five star, the food impressive but very small portions. The reputation attracted us to book and try, but we do not intend to return unless other friends wish to book and invite us along. NB: We are a group of people who regularly try New and Recommended - fine dining Restaurants in Melbourne. Note; we regularly dine at the Flowerdrum which, for many years, set the standard. Also we followed John Ribira - Fish Restuarants - Fitzroy to Sorrento, but have lost contact. Do you know if he is still in the restuarant business? Thank you for the opportunity to use this site.
