PROFILED BY DEGROOTS MEDIAThe best of the Mornington Peninsula is on offer each day at the Vines of Red Hill. Amid beautiful and tranquil surrounds, this winery and restaurant makes the most of the seasonal, regional produce that abounds in the area. Large picture windows look out onto gum trees and gently sloping landscaped gardens, and local art adorns the walls. Chef James Redfern complements these peaceful surroundings with “La Cuisine Saisonnaire”, dishes created with local produce from the land, the sea and artisan producers. The menu is contemporary and innovative in style and changes daily, beautifully showcasing the best of each season. There is a lot of artistry to be found within the menu as well – the dishes are simply and elegantly presented.
Entrees might include fresh Dromana Bay mussels or seasonal vegetables, while main courses offer locally caught seafood such as flounder, garfish and snapper, and local meats. In the colder months of the year you will find rabbit, chestnuts, artichokes and mushrooms on the menu. Desserts make use of the abundance of stone fruits and berries grown in the region. The restaurant also offers “Peninsula Plates” for lunch, which is a set price tasting menu with glass of wine. The wine list itself is extensive, featuring the estate’s own wines and those of other local and Australian wineries. It’s a short and easy stroll from the Vines’ cellar door to extend your wine flight in this charming country restaurant.
