Adding a touch of class to the Hardware Lane precinct , The Mill Restaurant is set over two levels. Downstairs is Charlie's Bar, an intimate cocktail bar that boasts infinite rustic charm with its exposed brick, and dark wooden surfaces that blend harmoniously with the russet plush leather sofas and golden wallpaper. The ground floor of this 19th Century converted warehouse is home to a spacious restaurant dressed in decadent shades of chocolate brown and gold. Raw brick is fused with timber, soft leather, and chandeliers grace the ceilings. There is also a casual bar area, with large, arched windows opening onto Juliet-style balconies, and plenty of al fresco dining in the cobblestone laneway. Soak up the sounds of jazz every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening as the resident laneway band sing their soulful tunes. In the evening, the lights are dimmed and candles are lit, adding a touch of romance to the relaxed ambience.

FOOD & BEVERAGE
The Mill Restaurant offers a modern Australian menu, sourcing the finest and freshest ingredients to ensure taste and quality in every dish. For a decedent entrée opt for the duck liver parfait with toasted brioche and date relish or the pan seared quail with homemade caramelised chilli, tomato and shallot sauce with a rocket and grana padano garnish. A main course of pomegranate and apple rolled pork belly with toasted garlic mash is a sumptuous treat, as well as the twice cooked rosemary and palm sugar smoked lamb with port jus and aspic mint. Be sure to indulge in a tantalizing dessert of glass chocolate tart with double dark Swiss chocolate ice-cream and espresso ganache. A carefully composed wine list showcases wines from the New World, with special homage to boutique drops from Australia and New Zealand. 28 wines are available by the glass, ranging from light summer varieties such as Arneis and Pinot Gris to beautiful winter reds. The Mill also offers an extensive cocktail list that reflects a mix of classics alongside new found favourites.

FUNCTIONS
The Mill is perfect for intimate wedding receptions or private celebrations with its old-world charm and character. It offers an intimate dining space for up to 40 seated guests, and there is also a large bar and casual dining area for 45 seated people or 70 standing. Both areas are available for private hire (excluding Friday and Saturday nights). The venue is ideal for smaller functions of 30 for lunch or dinner throughout the week, with set menus available for such occasions. Charlie’s Bar can also be exclusively reserved for a party and is perfect for pre or after dinner drinks.

I went to the Mill with a group of friends on a Saturday night. The restaurant was buzzing and it's easy to see why. The food, service and the whole ambience was great. I can recommend the Wagyu, juicy and superbly cooked, my friends had the lamb which was tender and the polenta cake it came with was a lovely accompaniment. Make sure you save room for dessert, the chocolate tart cannot be missed! We headed downstairs to Charlie's for a quick drink and ended up staying all night. I'm going for the live jazz they have playing next Sunday. Enjoy!review 13/01/2010
