Situated on the city’s historic Flinders Lane, Rosati converted from a utilitarian fabric warehouse into a grand architectural masterpiece under Piero Gesualdi’s design. With its painted Venetian style walls, mosaic floors, large windows and frescoed courtyard area this is opulence at its finest. Despite its clever design and sense of grandeur, the service here is relaxed, efficient and unobtrusive; the menu not fussed or intimidating. Rosati is also perfect for functions thanks to its significant space and will happily accommodate most any request.

Start your day with a breakfast of smoked salmon and avocado. This pair is served on multigrain toast brushed with cream cheese, then and drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and scattered with baby capers (topped with a poached egg too if you so fancy). For lunch or dinner try an entree of marinated calamari rings dusted in semolina and fresh herbs served on a rocket and parmesan salad, or the traditional winter bean and pasta soup, pasta fagioli. Follow with traditional Italian style lamb shanks served on a mixed vegetable mirepoix and homemade potato gnocchi, or tender pan-seared veal scaloppine served on garlic spinach and potatoes with a bacon, mushroom and wine jus. Finish with a selection of tempting cakes. The wine list – though mostly of the Australian variety –also boasts some Italian contenders.
