PROFILED BY DEGROOTS MEDIAThe running dog mascot on the signage is the only element that remains of the old Monties. This venue has experienced a complete revamp since its change of ownership in 2007, from its eclectic, bohemian mix of clientele and quirky objets d’art, to a spruced up, slicked back space that still welcomes all comers in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Pressed tin has replaced the corrugated iron bar, and blue velvet banquette seating, ornate mirrors and chandeliers lend a sense of opulence to what could otherwise be an open, cavernous room.
Monties opens for breakfast and lunch with the usual selection of fry-ups, pancakes, focaccias and snacks. In the evening, choose from tapas, pasta and risotto or generous serves of pub-type fare such as burgers, steaks and fish and chips. It’s a nice spot to just enjoy a drink as well with a large, attractive bar area beckoning thirsty guests. Music features on Friday and Saturday nights and the bar is licensed until 3am. Monties really comes into its own as a flexible venue for a party or casual get together with friends. Larger groups are easily accommodated and there is also a separate function room with private bar facilities for a more intimate experience.
