LOCATIONSouth Yarra
PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIATaking its name from the region in South East Asia where the Mekong River approaches and empties into the sea, Mekong Delta is a South Yarra-based Vietnamese restaurant which is proud of its heritage. While most Vietnamese restaurants in Melbourne are a combination of Chinese, Thai and Malay cuisines, Mekong Delta prides itself on offering authentic dishes specific to the three regions of Vietnam: Hanoi, Hue and Saigon.
Chef Agnes Dinh has carefully created a menu filled with exquisite Vietnamese fare. Start with the asparagus and crab soup, or the Hanoi spring rolls comprising chicken, prawn, wood ear mushrooms, onion, carrots and seasoning wrapped in thin rice paper and fried to a crispy finish. Follow with one of the chef’s recommendations such as the salmon temptation of snow peas topped with a steamed salmon fillet and house-made garlic and peppercorn sauce with a pickled ginger and green shallot garnish, or the Mekong Delta duck served in a delicious plum sauce. Clay pot dishes are also extremely popular such as the caramelised ginger chicken, slow cooked to release its full flavour. A variety of banquet options are also available. Mekong Delta is fully licensed with over 50 local and imported varieties or BYO (wine only).
