PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAMatteos is elegant and contemporary, with strong colours and lots of black and teal blue The tables are set in the old style with heavy damask linen, good cutlery and glassware. What is so good here is the combination of the formal and the cool. Owner Matteo Pignatelli keeps re-inventing the restaurant in the best possible way, so settle into a comfortable chair and soak it up.
The menu is an enticing blend of European and Asian influences with lots of Japanese flavours. To start with, try the Japanese tasting plate which is a smart combination of marinated kingfish, smoked eel on tofu, and a little pot of chawan mushi, all set out on a black rectangular plate. The oysters five ways are a good choice too. .
