PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAIt happened like it does for most new favourite things. Somebody suggested “that Vietnamese place” on Brunswick Street, and the next thing we know we’re devouring some of the freshest and tastiest Vietnamese spring rolls I’ve ever tried; steamed perfectly and bursting with tasty pork, prawns and veggies. They had me at entree. Shared meals work a treat here, and because the menu has about 80 items on it (including a staggering vegetarian menu) it’s the best way to try as much as possible. For us the winner was the Singaporean roast duck coleslaw, served with shredded mixed vegetables and garnished with mint and crushed nuts. This was closely seconded by the beef coleslaw, with fresh vegetables and spicy lime sauce garnished with coriander and peanuts. Top it all off with a freshly squeezed juice and you have a deliciously light and satisfying meal.
If you’d like to pay your compliments to the chef, see Richard Mai who will be busy in the back of this very new business; otherwise siblings and co-owners, Lucy and Kevin, will be happy to pass on the regards along with their wonderful service. A great summer option is their courtyard out the back, covered in a shady canopy of leaves like a tropical hideaway. Prices range from an extremely reasonable $12-20 and functions are welcome. Vegetarian options abound and particular favourites include the vegetarian tropical salad with nuts and also the stir fried bean curd with veggies, pineapple and sweet and sour sauce served on rice.
