PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAThis small cafe on busy Victoria Avenue is a popular spot for all those seeking food with a difference. It’s a traveller’s delight of the tastes of Middle Eastern cuisine that is a cut above the dishes found on most cafe menus that draw similar inspiration.
Start the day with the memorable Ethiopian spice and honey toast or butter beans with fetta and Turkish bread. Lunch is an opportunity to explore a more extensive Moroccan and African-influenced menu. Order the steamed mussels with mint harissa, the fattoush salad and the grilled watermelon with marinated fetta and pomegranate to experience all the delights of the kazbah. The roasted pumpkin with dukkah (a blend of roasted nuts, seeds and spices) and tahnini is another favourite. The mezze menu is seasonal, so look out for the new goat herder’s pie. A dinner menu is available from 6.00 pm where you can combine a mezze platter with dishes like whole baked snapper with chermoulla or berbere and a vegetarian tagine. Between the lunch and dinner menu, drop in for a glass of Turkish tea, a tisane of dried apple and sugar, and a date, orange and cashew ladyfinger.
