PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAOpen since 1998, Ito Japanese Noodle Café was the first Melbourne restaurant of its kind to offer a full range of Japanese noodle soup known as ramen. Ito’s ramens are imported exclusively from Hokkaido, the northern most point of Japan, with soup stock made daily on the premises, boiled for hours utilising only the freshest of ingredients to complement their signature dish. Duck in for a quick bite, business lunch, pre or post theatre meal or a special occasion dinner and assured of quality authentic Japanese fare at a surprisingly reasonable price.
From the a la carte selection start with an entrée of miso soup, a Japanese bean paste soup with tofu; chawan mushi: steamed egg custard with seafood and vegetables; or the chef’s tempura selection of seafood and vegetables deep fried in light batter. Follow with the suki yaki: thinly sliced beef cooked in sweet soy sauce with vegetables served in a hot pot, or a selection of ramen options that include the chatsu ramen with Japanese BBQ pork and the kaisen ramen with an assortment of seafood. Alternatively choose something from the sushi bar such as the Californian rolls or the unagi (grilled eel) hoso maki. Fully licensed Ito also offers BYO on wine only for $3.00 corkage per head.
