PROFILED BY DEGROOTS MEDIAA low, vine drapped and rather unassuming building just off Toorak Road is home to an endearing restaurant called Harveys. Inconspicuous from the outside, indoors is an open, light-filled space with simple decor. Clean lines, fresh flowers and crisp white linen strike a balance that is elegant rather than stark and two fireplaces ensure that Harveys is still a cosy place for breakfast or an intimate dinner in winter. Breakfast is offered daily – the trifle of natural yoghurt layered with muesli and stewed fruits is a favourite of regular morning diners. Weekend brunch may see you on the sunny front terrace enjoying roasted banana pancakes with honeycomb butter or potato roesti with steamed asparagus, poached eggs, truffle oil and reggiano.
Lunch and dinner showcases the best of Asian and Mediterranean influences, with entrees such as Wagyu bresaola with figs, buffalo mozzarella and white truffle honey. Mains include steamed snapper fillet with zucchini flowers, scallop mousse, saffron and chive butter or try the duck curry with coconut rice, cucumber, bean shoots and Thai herbs. There is an extensive, well-chosen wine list but if you have a special bottle in mind, Harveys also offers BYO Monday to Thursday nights.
