Greco European Grill

You could probably eat your way up and down the Promenade at Crown and not repeat a meal in a fortnight. Greco European Grill, which used to be called Cafe Greco, is a casual place that caters for whatever it might be that your tastebuds require, from breakfast through to the evening. The entry features a range of giant cakes, almost architectural in their proportions – think curls, cream and decorative cherries with lots of chocolate and gaudy colours. The dining room is surprisingly big and there is a large bar with high stools that look into a great display of salad bowls filled with antipasto selections such as artichokes, olives, tomatoes and anchovies. Other places to sit include comfy booths and the terrace that overlooks the river.

Mediterranean is the fare on offer, highlighted with lots of Greek influences. The menu includes grills and a section called tapas, which seems a bit odd when the Greek word for small dishes is mezethes. The range is enterprising, including burek (a cheese filled pastry), Greek sausages with peperonata, and even stuffed zucchini flowers when they’re in season. The catch here is patchy service – occasionally good, sometimes rude and often slow at busy times.
