Melbourne Central is no misnomer – this complex/area/station/centre has CBD suits, tourists, students and everyone else filing in and out all day long. The eateries offer fast and convenient service but some are pricey or lacking in quality. Enter Food Inc, and discover its delicious pastries, breakfasts, lunches, after-work drinks and even early dinners that are refreshingly cheap. Stop by before work and select a morning favourite, including ham and cheese toasties at $4 or bacon and eggs at $7.50. You can pick and choose side dishes and tailor your breakfast, and still get out for under $12. Simple focaccias and paninis are also well priced at $7.90, while more substantial lunch specials include a selection of risottos, whole baby flounder with lemon and caper sauce or Swiss veal with mushroom and brandy on a bed of hashbrown. The lunch menu changes regularly so if something sounds good, try it while you can. The freshly baked pastries are scrumptious and include New York cheesecake and a range of fruit Danishes.
