LOCATIONA short walk from Lygon Street’s “Little Italy” in the heart of North Carlton.
DETAILSThe décor has been inspired by traditional Asian culture with artistic flourishes from calligraphy inspired wall-paintings, to wooden screens and ornaments, yet the overarching feel is thoroughly contemporary. Russet coloured booth-style seating and wicker chairs line timber tables, and unique light fittings douse the space in a burnished glow. The private dining room is a sumptuous space with bright red walls and vintage furnishings.
FOOD & BEVERAGEThe menu offers a carefully composed spectrum of pan-Asian cuisine using fresh and tasteful ingredients. Entrées offer typical Asian fare such as Thai fish cakes, steamed roast pork buns, dim-sims and spring rolls that come in a mix of meat and vegetable varieties. The stir-fry menu for main course is incredibly extensive, sectioned into Chinese, Japanese and South-East Asian flavours. The roast duck stir-fry with celery, mushroom, carrot and hoisin sauce is a Chin Chin speciality, but you can’t go past the beef with yakitori sauce, which offers tender, juicy slices of beef in a rich marinade with capsicum and bok choy. The red duck curry is deliciously creamy and the mango curry scallops with sweet potato, red capsicum, and onion is wonderfully fragrant. What surprises many about Chin Chin's at Koto Moon is its desert menu. There's no fried ice-cream in sight, only classic European sweets like rich chocolate, raspberry mousse or sticky date pudding. The wine list is small, but this is no surprise as it offers BYO and fortunately the Rathdowne Cellars is just across the road.
FUNCTIONS Chin Chin is replete with a function room and a set-price menu that is perfect for an intimate gathering with friends and family. The space accommodates between 12 – 30 people, and menus can be tailored to suit individual requirements.
