PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIANever again will you have to visit separate places to eat lunch and whet your blades. That’s right, knife sharpening and great dining are together at last at the delightful Chef’s Edge Cafe. Located on Wellington Street, between the bustle of Smith and Brunswick, Lynne Hunter operates this quaint eatery that boasts in-house pastries, hearty soups and a wide range of accessories for professional chefs or knock-about cooks. The house burger is popular with the locals, as are the delicious breakfasts each named after a local or well-known street. It could be a little biased as the Wellington Street eggs on sourdough is clearly one of the best, but the Easy Street Bloody Mary – aka the Collingwood heart-starter with the lot – certainly has its place.
If this is not enough to get you out of bed and into Chef’s Edge, you can also try them after dark on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday when your home-made beef and Guinness pie can accompany Aunty Jack’s Quiz Night, Open Mic Night, or live blues respectively. And just when you thought it was over, if you leave them with your dull blades on your way out, they will be sharp by the morning!
