PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIANot enough positive things can be said about CERES.This environmental park situated along the Merri Creek is one of Melbourne’s treasures, home to a network of communities dedicated to conservation and ecology. In the heart of this parkland of community gardens, bush nursery, farm animals and recycling is the CERES cafe, specialising in all the worthwhile -isms. With a range of organic, vegetarian and vegan foods, everything on the menu is wholesome and appetising.
On the weekends, the cafe is almost festive, especially on a Saturday morning during the market. Start your day with some organic scrambled eggs served with fresh herbs on sourdough wheat toast or maybe try the Indonesian eggs – fried free-range eggs on white rice served with chilli, sambal, salad greens and garnished with peanuts, mint and coriander. One of the house-made organic beef and vegie sausage rolls makes a good lunch. The spicy kangaroo cerapcici served on flat bread with rocket and hummus will leave you more than satisfied. There is a range of bush food teas to have with your lemon polenta cake or muffin (made with organic chocolate). Be warned, on the weekends service can be slow. It’s table service only and there never appears to be enough staff.
