DETAILSSt Kilda’s Fitzroy Street is a street well known for its first-rate cafes and restaurants. Across the road and protected from the masses in a more relaxed tree-lined location sits Cacao Fine Chocolates and Patisserie. Now in its fourth year, the loyal following is well established and this French bistro-style cafe is a firm favourite. Gaze longingly at the perfectly created chocolates, being careful not to drool all over the glass display cabinets, before choosing a selection to enjoy, or sit at one of the wooden tables sipping an espresso while savouring a sweet pastry.
Breakfast daily until 11.30am on the Cacao muesli (macadamia nut muesli served with natural yoghurt accompanied by poached pear and apricot with a sprinkle of cinnamon), or the croque monsieur (ham, bechamel sauce and mozzarella cheese on toast). For lunch sample the house-made quiches such as the Beaufort cheese with bacon; the vegetarian pizza on brioche dough with tomato sauce, brie and mozzarella cheese, pepper and herbs; a bratwurst sausage roll with chutney; or choose from a selection of baguettes including Atlantic salmon with boursin cheese, red onions, rocket and dill. Finish with a plate of carefully selected chocolates designed for your tasting pleasure with a cup of Cacao’s signature hot chocolate made from a traditional French recipe.
