Recommended by our Greek friends we booked a table at the Athenian. We had always wondered what it was like nestled as it is in a sea of Asian eateries. First impressions was what a lovely room it is with the greenery of the plane trees level with its windows. The staff were warm and welcoming and the banquet provided course after course of fresh, flavoursome, abundant authentic food. Their lamb is awesome and Thursdays their cafe downstairs offers for $8.50 one of the best souvlakis in Melbourne. We love the Athenian Tavern!review 16/01/2012
