LOCATION
A 15 minute drive from Launceston along the Tamar River.

PROFILED BY DEGROOTS MEDIA
Set amongst the vines of Ninth Island vineyard, under a leafy canopy of ancient oaks overlooking the Tamar River to the mountains beyond, there are few restaurants anywhere that induce such a sense of bucolic tranquillity as here. And, if the setting creates the mood, Daniel Alps’ food more than matches it. For this is one of the very best restaurants in the north of the state and by far the finest in the valley, a must-stop break in any tasting meander through the beautiful vineyards of the Tamar Valley wine route.

And it’s the fresh, seasonal produce of the valley around which Alps builds his small daily menus. Organic berries, baby vegetables, herbs, cheeses and micro-salad greens from just down the road in summer. Flathead and Atlantic salmon from near the Tamar’s mouth. Autumn apples, pears and quinces from orchards on the eastern shore and spring lamb from the off-shore islands. This is regional dining at its best, as it was meant to be - fresh, local, seasonal food prepared with imagination and flair and accompanied by wines from the vineyard you’re sitting in. From the simplicity of the vineyard tapas platter to dishes like a Moroccan lamb tagine or truffled venison, the food is an exciting celebration of regional excellence.
