This Battery Point restaurant is the real noisy, heady, aromatic, friendly, bustling, casual, southern-Italian pizza and pasta experience. At Ristorante Da Angelo flavours are great, servings are plentiful and, day in day out, year in year out, the restaurant is consistent.

If Naples is the world’s pizza capital, this is as close as you’ll get to Napoli in Hobart. Busy? Forget it. The place is packed with regulars and tourists seven nights a week and has been since Angelo opened his doors 15 years ago. Not quite a place of pilgrimage, but certainly a Hobart pasta and pizza institution. And the reasons are simple – flavours are great, servings are plentiful and, day in day out, year in year out, the restaurant’s consistent.
Everything from the lasagne pasta sheets to the ricotta-filled ravioli, calzoni dough, tiramisu and Marsala cheesecake is made on the premises. Mamma still hand-makes the gnocchi – as she has done since day one. They pay top prices to get the best real veal. And they make their sauces fresh every day. It’s a buzz. The real noisy, heady, aromatic, friendly, bustling, casual, southern Italian experience. Great for families, great for take-aways and nothing to fault on their wine list (also BYO), the prices, the zabaglione or the smiling service. And, to finish to night off, there’s a grappa or three to have with your coffee.
