A deep, elongated space, dark polished wood, oversized wall mirrors, a busy cake and coffee servery up front and the bustle, buzz of conversation and aromas make this a welcoming CBD gem redolent of Italy. A small list offers wines by the glass to be enjoyed at street-side tables watching Hobart shop and go by at lunchtime.

Breakfasts range from classic favourites like Eggs Benedict and Florentine to rhubarb and apple risotto with coconut cream and grilled polenta with Huon Valley honey brown mushrooms, seared spinach and Haloumi. Lunch runs the gamut from pannini and soup to heartier dishes like lamb shanks and risotto, often with an Italianate influence and the daily specials are always a good bet. The cakes are a feature here, some of the best in town and the display of sweets is visually exciting and always delivers in terms of taste and generous portions. As you leave pick up a jar or bottle of their own preserves or dressings, all beautifully presented and perfect as a gift from Tasmania.
