DETAILS
1918 is a charming country cottage country cottage with polished timber and lemon yellow walls exude a sunny glow. On warm days, sit in the lush gardens and soak up the gentle Barossa sunlight. In winter, 1918 is one of the most memorable places to have lunch in the whole of South Australia. With a blazing open fire to dine by and dozens of back vintages of remarkable local wines to drink, there is nothing cold or uptight about this bistro located in a cottage just off the Barossa Valley Highway. A favourite haunt of wine makers and wine lovers who frequent the valley, owners Christian and Melissa Fletcher keep the cellar stocked and the food quality extremely high.

1918 Bistro & Grill - User Reviews

Trevor Scott:

A lovely Barossa stone, historical cottage with pressed metal ceilings, lead light glass, timber and plaster archways, with timber floors, and all the rooms opened up to each other, but with enough walls left to make more intimate dining areas. In winter there are three fireplaces lit with roaring fires, while in summer, on a balmy Barossa evening, you may choose the vine-covered verandah area, overlooking lawn and gardens. From a selective menu of predominately fresh local produce, our mains were, Szechwan peppered kangaroo fillet, the char grilled Coorong Angus scotch fillet, with roasted parsnips, garlic aioli and grilled Scultz's bacon, mouth watering. Our accompanying wines were, a 2012 Tom Foolery "Trouble & Strife" Rose, and 2011 Tom Foolery "Son of a Gun" Cabernet/Shiraz, excellent choice. The service was prompt, friendly and helpful, contributing to an outstanding evening. . Bookings are essential.review  15/04/2013

Alan Connor:

We arrived at the Reataurant with no prior booking and were lucky enough to get a table under the shady trees and surrounded with many fragrant shrubs. I notice the Wisteria had just finished flowering , so another time. The garfish that we had was done in a very light crisp batter and had a great combination of greens including Fennel, and was first class. Staff were friendly and efficient. We will be back again.review  30/10/2012

Amanda:

Excellent service while seated on the verandah under the flowering wisteria on a warm spring day. The mains: pork chop and lamb cutlets were beautifully cooked and served. The accompanying green leaf salad was elegantly presented and lightly dressed. Good sized portions and value for money at this standard of cuisine and presentation. Highly recommended. Delightful find in the heart of Tanunda.review  29/09/2011

Reto Gasser:

The cocktail party on Thursday was a fantastic evening, and asking people to donate to the cancer foundation is just a brilliant idea. The food on the evening- well I didn’t see much of it but what I had was from good to excellent. The scallops absolutely a smasher, the fried pork belly was dry and the sauce was not a winner for me. But those king prawns absolutely a winner. The oysters weren’t not to my liking- they were warm and the lemon was missing. Overall I had a fantastic night. Thank you for the invitation. Kind regards and love to your family and staff. Retoreview  08/08/2011
