PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIALocated in the Oaks Plaza Pier Hotel, The Rocks Beachfront Grill affords superb views of the blinding white sand and aquamarine water of Glenelg beach. With outside tables on the balcony you’d be hard pressed to find a nicer place to lunch on a sunny day. The interior is modern and simple, with a combination of carpeting and tiled flooring, linen-clad tables and a comfy black banquette running the length of the rear wall.
Unlike so many hotel restaurants, the Rocks’ menu is both innovative and exciting. The tasting plates are great value and packed with delicious morsels. The entree-sized Rocks tasting plate could be a meal in itself with salt and pepper squid, bloody Mary oyster, spinach and ricotta terrine with smoky eggplant puree, and cold roasted veal with salted capers, fire roasted capsicum, and chervil and tuna mayonnaise. Main courses focus mainly on seafood dishes and options from the chargrill. Highlights include the oven-roasted Whyalla kingfish and the steak Oscar (a tender aged fillet cooked as you like it and served with a grilled tiger prawn and scallop skewer, mashed potato, asparagus and bearnaise sauce). To finish choose from one of the yummy desserts (summer trifle, creme brulee, lemon tart or chocolate mousse), the cheese platter or glass of dessert wine.
