LOCATIONIn the Metro Shopping Centre on Unley Road.
PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAUnley Road has long been where gastronomy and retail therapy are brought together in delicious matrimony. Its Metro shopping complex boasts some spiffy shops and is home to The Metro Bistro; a perfect haven for anyone looking to give their well-heeled tootsies (and credit card) a rest or for a food destination in itself. New chef on board, Natt Johns, takes pride in feeding his dignified diners with passionately prepared food, resulting in dishes of snap-fresh flavours, colour and balanced tastes. Nosh on the lower level and its glass frontage allows you to keep an eye on the tasty boutiques nearby or perhaps opt to park your Prada in the sun-filled alfresco area. Owner Greg Sheridan is likely to be buzzing around, so pull him over and quiz him about which liquid delights he would recommend from the wine list he is so proud of – he will love it.
A day’s shopping should commence with a good, solid breakfast. It is only fitting you choose eggs with a wee bit of indulgence. Poached googs with smoked salmon, asparagus and heavenly hollandaise come with spinach for further fortification. An all-day menu ensures you can refuel anytime. The house Caesar is perfect for this. White anchovies, crisped pancetta and parmesan croutons make for stylish touches. Lunchtime may call for some salt and pepper whitebait with saffron mayo followed by coconut-crusted South Australian king prawns with lime aioli. Lamb loin with braised hispi cabbage also gets you thinking. Come for an evening meal of pork scotch fillet on kipfler potatoes with blistered cherry tomatoes or crispy-skinned Atlantic salmon with rocket, pear, walnut, Stilton shavings and balsamic glaze. Nose-in-the-air types have a treat waiting just perfect for their heightened nostrils – the MET smelly cheese platter!
