Grapevines that tumble from the veranda in front of the beautiful, heritage-style glass frontage create a charming entry into this quaint restaurant. Venture through the black-painted timber and feel like you could be sneaking into someone’s family dining room – which you are in a way. Owners Brenton and Anita Allan have been putting their signature on Stamps Restaurant since they acquired it nine years ago. Housed next to the old Mitcham Post Office, its polished timber bar, furnishings and floor complemented with white linen gives the restaurant a mood of antiquity. Glimmering chandeliers and classic cream walls mix with a subtle contemporary edge seen in the terracotta feature wall. Historical photographs and modern artworks face each other on opposite walls. The décor mirrors chef Brenton’s food and recreates elegance with a sophisticated convergence of classic and contemporary style.

The menu is a playful composition which unifies rich meats and European style with occasional Asian accents. The current dinner menu of which the chef playfully changes seasonally features entrée goodies such as king prawn spring rolls drizzled with chilli and palm sugar caramel sauce, sprinkled with peanut and sesame brittle, and served fresh watermelon and coconut salad. Harris Smokehouse salmon and potato terrine is presented with crème fraîche, gazpacho jelly, radish and toasted brioche. Mains offer barbecued yellowtail kingfish with Port Lincoln mussels, grilled fennel, capers and shellfish butter, while the mustard-crusted Clare Valley beef fillet is a comforting dish served with buttered leeks, baby carrots and herb and Gruyère cheese gems. Stamps Restaurant creates a beautiful unification of classic and contemporary style through décor and cuisine that can be enjoyed in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
