A full-flavoured modern Australian menu is found within the cosiness of Mitcham’s Stamps Restaurant. Proprietor chef Brenton Allan and wife Anita welcome all for dignified, boutique dining in Adelaide’s elegant eastern suburbs. Their seasonal kitchen procures South Australian cuts of Onkaparinga venison, Murraylands lamb, and Clare Valley beef, presenting them suchness as hazelnut vincotto; roasted mushrooms and peppers; chorizo frittata, tapenade and smokey eggplant sauce respectively.

Just a short stroll from the Brownhill Creek Recreation Park or Mitcham Cinema.

Grapevines tumbling around the verandah of this heritage-styled eatery make for a lovely entrance, holding promise of a tasteful time inside. Charm and chic are order of the day in the Allan’s homely room. Housed next to the old Mitcham Post Office, this restaurant’s polished timber bar, considered furnishings, and tables caped in white linen, give it a feel of antiquity. Sparkling chandeliers mix with a modern terracotta feature wall, while historical photos and modern artwork are hung in opposition to each other.
Some might reflect that the décor mirrors Brenton’s food - a sophisticated convergence of classic and contemporary style. Seasonally adjusted dishes may include grilled octopus with heritage tomato, sun dried olives, white anchovies, capers and garlic crisps; slow cooked pork belly and seared scallop with pickled vegetables, wakame and xo sauce, or confit duck leg with grapes, red sorrel and bacon, eschalot and liver pie. A side of crispy salt and vinegar spuds never goes astray, especially with “Stamps Pie” - baked in house made pastry.
