LOCATIONGlenelg, 10 minutes from Adelaide CBD.
PROFILED BY DE GROOTSSouth Australia's premier beach district is only minutes from the city and is one of Australia's leading resort style hotels. Located on absolute beachfront in Glenelg, this vibrant seaside-shopping precinct reflects the casual lifestyle and relaxing atmosphere of life by the sea.
The Promenade Restaurant makes me nostalgic for English seaside holidays at Brighton Beach; memories I’ve created through novels and movies rather than my own experience. Located in Adelaide’s own seaside playground of Glenelg, The Promenade is situated right on the beach foreshore and through its floor to ceiling windows you have sweeping views of sand, sea, pier and finely manicured lawn. Open for buffet breakfast and a la carte lunch and dinner seven days a week, it feels so very Brighton (of the Jane Austen era) to dine so elegantly by the sea.
For something light to start try the twice baked goat’s cheese souffle cooked to perfection and served with Swiss chard, preserved lemon and shaved pear, or if you like a bit of variety you might prefer the individual tapas plate with local olives, stuffed sweet chillies, fried oyster, cured meats, seafood and pickled vegetables. Mains include the ever popular fish’n’chips: South Australian King George whiting fillets fried in ale batter until crisp and served with fries, green salad and lime aioli. For something a bit more sophisticated try the twice cooked duck served with warm puy lentils, pork dumplings, green onion, ginger and shallot jus. Desserts are suitably indulgent; try the warm rhubarb and almond tart with clotted cream and apple puree. Very English.
