Sammy's on the Pier

There is something surreal about being in a restaurant perched above the beach, enclosed by glass walls, under the shade of a big tree. Sammy’s on the Pier is a circular restaurant with panoramic views of Glenelg Beach, West Beach and Holdfast Marina. The tree in the middle lends it a magical quality which permeates all aspects of the restaurant, and you will certainly believe a spell has been cast when you hear patrons go on about the food.

With a slogan like: “you’ll never seafood better” you begin to get an idea of the sort of cuisine on offer at Sammy’s (although they do cater for non-seafood eaters). For entree try Sammy’s cold plate with a selection of king prawns, natural oysters and smoked salmon served with lemon and greens or the lightly crumbed scallops with lemon and tartare sauce. Choosing a main will be difficult due to the wide variety on offer: soup, pasta, fish fillet, whole fish, seafood platters, lobster and so on. Try the crispy skin Atlantic salmon served with wilted spinach and buttered snow peas, topped with an olive tapenade. The wine list is comprehensive and Sammy has gone through the menu personally and chosen the best wine to complement each dish. Maybe it’s not magic after all - just good old fashioned dedication and passion.
