PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAAt first glance Salt Bar and Restaurant appears like so many others to be found in the new complex at Holdfast Shores Marina, but its popularity sets it apart from the rest. So what is Salt doing right to attract a reputation as the place to go in Glenelg? Perhaps it’s the location right on the corner, where its 270 degree views through the floor to ceiling windows stretch around from the powerboats bobbing away on the marina to the park across the road. Perhaps it’s the young, funky atmosphere and cosy cushioned chairs.
Then again, maybe it’s all about the food. Open for lunch and dinner seven days and for weekend breakfast, the modern Australian menu boasts a selection of tempting dishes to get your tastebuds dancing. Entrees include a kangaroo fillet served medium rare with curly endive, crispy wonton and tamarind sauce or rocket and chevre salad tossed with walnuts, pear, herbed croutons and a raspberry vinaigrette. For mains you might choose the venison fillet served medium rare on a bed of braised red cabbage, poached pear and juniper berry jus. The dessert menu is scrumptious, the wine list is comprehensive and there is a wide selection of cocktails available. But if you really want to find out what’s so special about Salt, you’ll just have to visit.
