Pranzo, nestled in the old financial sector near the former stock exchange building is one of the best lunch spots in the CBD. It consistently delivers quality Italian dishes, bistro style. The menu is divided into pizza, pasta and risotto, offerings from the grill and mains. There's a handful of dishes in each category, and that's part of what makes Pranzo so good; everything is pared back to simple elegance.

Breakfast over cinnamon and raisin risotto, South Australian blue swimmer crab taglierini for a lunch date, or quick espresso-fuelled catch-ups - Pranzo hosts a professional, pleasurable visit, every time. Seek it out in Adelaide’s historic (Stock) Exchange place, and make the delightful decision whether to be seen noshing al fresco under the chic, canvas awning,or enjoying yourself within the classic bistro dining space. The scene is set with simple dark wooden furniture, some very special artwork, and a large blackboard boasting some amazing drops and specials of the day.

Pranzo feels very European and Melbournians would feel right home. But it is ours. Well, Chef Haydn Fyfe’s and Abdulla Daher’s to be precise. Daher delivers a smart, smooth and swift dining experience (if the latter needs be). The Pranzo team understand city diners who appreciate a cultured, intelligent and tasteful meal, but do not wish to dilly-dally. Nine years worth of regular clientele are testimony to Pranzo being named as serving the Best CBD Lunch by the Adelaide Food Awards 2010.

Fyfe presents what he names “real food”, using prime produce with its natural, earthy flavours accentuated. Dishes are divided into pasta, pizza, risotto and mains. But far from the norm are they. An entrée of truffled cauliflower croquette with jamon speaks volumes, as does the orecchiette with green beans, basil and new potatoes. A risotto of milk-fed Suffolk lamb with fennel and mint begs for a bottle from Pranzo’s super spiffy wine list. Consider main plates of line-caught cuttlefish with citrus, radicchio and olive salad, or an MSA grade 400 gram rib-eye served with garlic mash and chimichurri sauce. Or perhaps it’s “just” a pizza you’re after? How about prawn, provolone and black truffle? Enough said.

Pranzo - User Reviews

david:

This area of the city is alive with eateries... Pranzo promises much. But a friday lunch was a disaster, menu items unavailable (can be excused), service attentive to the point of intrusion by a waiter who wanted to be our friend but failed to serve, wrong dishes served, cold food. The place was full so perhaps our experience was just unfortunate, but in a top venue you expect much much more.review  27/04/2012
