PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAGrandfather Antonino opened Adelaide’s first all-night pizzeria, Marcellina, in 1967. His son Andy established La Trattoria – hangout of the hungry – and made famous in 1975, and now his children bring inherited hospitality to the suburbs. Parisi’s, Hyde Park (the other is at Magill) was awarded Adelaide’s Best Suburban Restaurant, 2007. Situated on the paved fashionista strip of King William Road, its two contrasting spaces work well. The main dining room is modern in design while the courtyard evokes traditional Italy. Simone Parisi keeps an eagle eye on things with her team of professionals to back her up. Nikki is applauded for reciting specials with Shakespearean delivery, and the company chef Donia Raslan is a major contributor to Parisi’s success.
Everything is prepared a-la-minute and uber-fresh seafood is key, ensuring that tables are continuously filled. The menu charms with an image of grandfather Antonino wielding an octopus. One dish you simply have to try is the garlic prawns with over one dozen of the beauties in a cream-based sauce of chilli, garlic, basil, chives, wine and lemon wedges. Order a side of schiacciata bread, which comes with virgin olive oil, garlic, rosemary and sea-salt, to mop up every single drop. Follow with an affogato with a shot of espresso and a shot of Tia Maria poured over vanilla gelato for a heavenly end to your meal. Simone says humbly, “We are just a busy restaurant”, but come on down and meet the family – rest assured you won’t go hungry.
