Najjar’s Cafe has been a North Adelaide corner-meeting place for fifteen years. Locals love being seen here leisurely breakfasting. It also has a reputation for functions, with Lebanese platters a specialty. The a la carte menu is a daily marathon with a 7.30am start of eggs, omelettes, organic muesli and a breadbasket that includes Lebanese wraps and “mountain sandwiches” on rye. A stretch of salads and pasta leads into the main courses. The giant deep-sea squid sounds like it could be a tough beast to tackle, so if you’re not feeling particularly energetic then perhaps top up your Omega 3 with baked Atlantic salmon served on delicate English spinach instead.

Lamb is seasoned with Moroccan spices before chargrilling; chicken breast is stuffed with prosciutto and brie, and served with silky champagne sauce. Many are hip to Najjar’s nachos burger, so-called because of its mini-me serve of nachos on the side. The menu thoughtfully considers one’s health with codes for healthy choice, gluten free, vegetarian and low GI options. It also embraces one’s enjoyment of life with (medicinal) wine recommendations prescribed to each dish. Linger over a liqueur coffee laced with dark rum while you spy on noshing celebrities from neighbouring radio and television stations. If you are famous enough, Lynette will even let you sign the wall.
