No longer a suburban watering hole, the Maylands Hotel offers guests delightful modern Australian cuisine within its opulent restaurant areas. Featuring two distinct dining options, a casual area is perfect for families and features views over the adjacent park, while the adults only dining room elevates this pub to fine-dining standards and serves a classic line up of flavours, with everything from curry to kiev and steaks on offer.

The Maylands is another hotel to have recently gone under the knife. Its nip and tuck has brought a better than expected rejuvenation where restrained elegance wins over commercial predictability. Interior designer Francesca B. Cerone has added a tasteful touch with quality furnishings and fittings such as Swarovski crystal chandeliers from New York, leather wall panels, jarrah floorboards and mirror finished titanium gold-plated feature tiles. Not surprisingly, the decor is matched with an equally dignified menu.

Seafood lovers will be delighted with the class of choices swimming through the menu. Smoked salmon, goat’s cheese and avocado is a nice bruschetta topping, but if your wallet is feeling on the thick side sway towards the lobster where a local beauty comes baked in filo pastry. Its rich flesh is poached with julienne vegetables, tomato and basil. The seafood treasure chest is a stylish dish that brims with prawns, calamari, scallops, salmon and barramundi, and sauteed in garlic, chives and white wine. All are put to bed under puff pastry. Those wanting a meatier option should steer towards Wagyu beef which matches its lobster counterpart in opulence and presentation. The 250g eye fillet has a seven score marbling and melts in your mouth. Combine the best of both worlds and select the pan-fried veal with Gulf prawns and bug tail. It is brandy-flamed and served with a dollop of herb hollandaise. Sweets are exactly that. Cointreau macerated strawberries are classically partnered with vanilla ice-cream. Enhance this match with a sip of strawberry Rubis liqueur or vanilla Galliano.

Maylands Hotel - User Reviews

Heather:

Chosen for a family birthday celebration the Maylands Hotel certainly ticked all the boxes. A child friendly area, for our granddaughter, great atmosphere & plenty of staff. After being directed to our table, given a rather unclean high chair, menus & wine list we then perused the very good menu. A waiter was immediatley present to take our order and the food followed soon after. We were not asked for a wine selection and all efforts to attract the attention of wait staff were ignored, so we ordered a bottle of wine from the bar. As the wine had not appeared by the time meals were finished we cancelled it. Unfortunately we still remained invisible as we sat for another 30 mins waiting to order dessert, at which time we paid for the meals and left. Meals had varied comments, my swordfish was very good as was the porterhouse. The pork special did not have the apple sauce as per the menu and the diner felt that it should have been mentioned by the waiter that it did not have vegetables/salad served with it. Overall a poor experience due to lack of service.review  04/02/2012
