PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIALadies of all ages will find a girlish grin spread over their faces when they walk into the Just Tickled Pink dining room. Suddenly in a sea of pink, you are surrounded by the flouncy, the feathery and the frilly, and Audrey Hepburn photos – lots of them. There are more Hepburn images than you can poke a cake fork at, so put yours to better use on the glamorous cupcakes instead. This place is famous for them, serving more than 1500 a week. These beautiful beasties can be boxed up to go, so you don’t have to dine in to enjoy them. Owners Geoff and Kim Graetz and lovely maitre de Victoria welcome not only sweet-tooths but also those favouring savoury light lunches. Anyone who shares Kim’s admiration for Audrey Hepburn will certainly be tickled pink by a visit!
Of course, you can always start with the weekly menu then treat yourself to something sweet afterwards. The Piccadilly is a good example of the fare available. Silverside, caramelised cabbage and French mustard are sandwiched, toasted and served with a garden salad. Roasted vegetable and chorizo bake is accompanied by rocket, pear and parmesan. Cheese and chive frittatas are crowned with cream cheese and smoked salmon. It is high tea, however, that this kitchen specialises in – and will really make your day a special one. There are several service styles on offer; for the ultimate, book a private soiree and partake in Champagne, traditional Ritz-style sandwiches and those fabulous cupcakes in miniature form. Banana cream caramel, lime souffle, brandied apricot, lavender lover and Belgium truffle are just some of the creations on offer. Assam tea is served in bone china settings. You and your fellow tea-goers will receive full silver service attention, so step back in time and feel like a lady.
