LOCATIONArt Gallery Restaurant is located in the Art Gallery, located on North terrace in Adelaide CBD.
PROFILED BY DEGROOTSWinding my way through the inter-connecting rooms at the Art Gallery of South Australia, I’m surprised that people actually make their lunch dates on time. Art and food make a lovely couple, and while so many restaurants realise the importance of aesthetics, in regards to both food and artwork, not too many can afford works by artists such as Auguste Rodin and Margaret Preston.
Cath Kerry is the woman behind the menu; she is a caterer, consultant, food historian and writer with a passion for the arts, a perfect fit for this restaurant. Her modern Australian menu is tailored towards the lunch crowd (the restaurant doesn’t open for dinner) with smaller dishes perfect for a mid-tour graze. Try the crisp flavours in the crab salad with Asian herbs and soft noodles or the lamb salad with mixed mushrooms. For something a little more substantial, perhaps try the lamb cutlets with cucumber, mint, and yoghurt. Desserts are divine; chocolate pannacotta with Marsala, fresh pepper creme anglaise and gingerbread is an eclectic mix of exotic flavours that tastes sensational. Keep and eye out for their special courses designed to tie in with the visiting art exhibitions – a unique cultural experience combining visual art and gastronomy.
