Restaurant and Catering Awards 2009 - Best Restaurant in a Winery
Restaurant Lurleen, set within the gorgeous grounds of Mount Cotton’s Sirromet Winery, is one of this country’s best winery restaurants. Being a stand-out venue not only in terms of its striking design accentuated by huge bluestone towers and the warmth of exposed timbers, Lurleen’s impresses as a gourmet dining destination in the truest sense, with equal emphasis on plate and glass.

LOCATION
Lurleen’s Restaurant is nestled within Sirromet Winery, on Mount Cotton Road. An approximate 30 minute drive south of Brisbane and 40 minutes north of Surfers Paradise.
PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIA
Just 30 minutes south of Brisbane you’ll find a highly praised restaurant and award-winning winery, nestled in the scenic surrounds of Mount Cotton. With equal emphasis on plate and glass, Restaurant Lurleen’s combines palate-pleasing wines with an obsession for fresh, local produce, resulting in one of the country’s best winery restaurants. The large dining room features exposed wood and bluestone towers, complemented by professional and welcoming staff.

Fresh local produce benefits from Asian and European culinary influences, and are brought together by the deft hand of executive chef and television celebrity Andrew Mirosch. At least two-thirds of the kitchen’s produce is sourced locally, with Moreton Bay proving a delicious source of fresh seafood, and organic herbs, spices, fruit and vegetables grown on-site. Serving breakfast, lunch, morning and afternoon tea Wednesday to Sunday, and dinner Thursday to Saturday, Restaurant Lurleen’s at Sirromet Winery is the ultimate spot to while away a day in the country. The tempting menu suggests wines by the glass to match each entree and main; or those with an appetite can indulge in a seven-course degustation dinner with matched wines each Thursday and Friday. Start with the chilled ballentine of ocean trout, smoked salmon rillette, and lemon and creme fraiche pannacotta with toasted brioche, matched to a glass of Sirromet’s 2006 Perfect Day Beginnings. Follow with the seared, herb-crusted salmon fillet served with sauteed Mediterranean vegetables, shaved fennel and blood orange, with potato crisps and garlic aioli. Cast your eyes over the daily specials, vegetarian menu and boutique Queensland cheese menu to complete the Lurleen’s experience.

DETAILS
The setting at Restaurant Lurleen’s is nothing short of sumptuous. In fact Lurleen’s epitomises generosity, from the proportions of the restaurant itself, to the warmth and efficiency shown by the floor staff and dedication and pride poured into the meals.

With its liberal 220 seats, this is by no means a small winery restaurant affair, making it the perfect setting for celebrating events and special occasions on any scale.

Restaurant Lurleen’s has won many accolades including Best Restaurant in Queensland in 2008 and 2009 by the Courier Mail Lifestyle Awards, and Best Restaurant in a Winery award six years in the running by Queensland Restaurant & Caterers’ Association.

FOOD & BEVERAGE
Specialising in modern Australian cuisine, international fresh food warrior and Executive Chef Andrew Mirosch heads up the kitchen at Lurleen’s. Being a subscriber to the philosophy that fresh is best, Andrew’s menu uses local fresh produce whenever possible. At least two-thirds of the produce used in the restaurant is sourced locally. Red-soil family farms in the nearby mountains are the source of many seasonally grown plump vegetables and seafood is sourced from Moreton Bay. Sirromet itself grows a selection of organic herbs, spices, fruit and vegetables on the vineyard which of course are incorporated into the menu at Lureen’s.

The restaurant is open for lunch from Wednesday to Sunday, dinner from Friday to Sunday and breakfast on the weekends. Morning and afternoon tea incorporating Devonshire tea, coffee and a selection of cakes is also offered at the Cellar Door, daily.

As moods and seasons change, so does the menu at Lureen’s, ensuring guests will be treated to a selection of the freshest possible produce in season at the time of their visit. For those feeling a little indulgent, there is a degustation menu with seven courses, each complemented carefully with a Sirromet wine.
